The Repair Guys growth strategy

Steve Pearson Managing Director of Appliance Care Ltd, known to the public as the Repair Guys, came to the Innovation and Growth programme looking to discover how innovation could help him scale his business. The recession had taken its toll on the electrical market and Steve was now ready to move into a growth phase. The company had recently restructured following the acquisition of a Plymouth-based TV repair company and more recently a refrigeration business from Exmouth. Steve knew he would need to take tough decisions if the company was to progress.

Steve is a natural entrepreneur and passionate about great customer service as the key driver underpinning success. Since attending the programme, Steve has now introduced an online booking system to make it easier for customers to book a repair and is in the process of setting up a network of drop off points across the South West. An online diary also brings benefits to the whole company as engineers can now provide immediate feedback from the field via their smart phones, significantly reducing the repair completion time.

Steve said, ‘for the Repair Guys, attending the Innovation and Growth programme gave me access to new knowledge and strategies that have helped me crystallise my growth strategy. We are embarking on a very exciting phase of growth and the Innovation programme came at the right time.’

The Innovation Management & Growth workshops were managed by Devon & Cornwall Business Council in partnership with Devon County Council and delivered by Optimise4 Limited. These workshops were part of a wider pan – European project (the ATLANT-KIS project) which has been designed to provide practical support to Devon based SMEs, enabling business Owners and Directors of smaller organisations to access specialist knowledge and expertise that may otherwise have been out of their reach financially.
